Our first split ep between élan vital recordings Italian drone superstars Carlo Giustini and Michele Andreotti with two separate tracks on one release for the beginning of the year!

The tracks draw inspiration from the nature and spiritual traditions of Italy, and are built upon the layers and continuous repetition of sound masses whose timbral qualities try to evoke anciently and historically ritual-related musical elements, through textures made up of synths, vocals and string drones together with rhythmic cells performed by winds and resonant membranes. The duration of the pieces is also related to the ritual practice and dedication, that through the repetition and sustain of sound reaches the shape of a temporal dimension in which the present moment becomes absolute and immanent.

'A Piediluco' is dedicated to Carlo's experience in Piediluco, a place enclosed in the undisturbed and green landscape of the Umbria region. Its boundless lake, the encounters with the particular and fascinating people of the place, an old tower, where he was lucky enough to spend several days. "A little was enough to make a small part of me stay there forever", he says. The track 'A Piediluco' is a photograph of this state of mind, a dusty Polaroid that reappears and tells of an indefinite and suspended time. A piece of memory written in the matter.

'Sette Sorelle' is inspired from the spiritual ritual tradition of Campania region and specifically from the cult of the "seven sisters", the Seven Madonnas worshiped in this region of southern Italy. The cult of the Sette Sorelle is intimately connected to the cult of various divinities worshiped as sisters, and related to the cycle of seasons and to solar and lunar pagan rituals. The Marian cult is involved in the evolution of popular cultural devotions, through a slow and constant graduality which absorbs, filters and reworks the pre-existing, towards the Christianization of ancient myths, cults, deities, rituals and festivities.

have yet to translate the song titles so the artist's intentions are somewhat of a mystery to me, but the wavering surface noise creates the theme of a dialogue between music & technology before becoming invisible to my ears. this conjures memories of listening to music as a child (long before the sterility of digital media), when i rarely took notice of the hiss & pops of records, 8-tracks, tapes, & am radio because they were a normal, necessary aspect of recorded sound. nice to be back again.
